FRANZ JACOB HÜBERT FAMILY 1898
FRANZ JAKOB HÜBERT FAMILY 1898
MARGENAU, UKRAINE

Welcome!

These pages were assembled on the occasion of the 2015 International Hübert Family Reunion/Hüberttreffen in Abbotsford, BC, Canada. They take their name from Franz Jakob Hübert (1850–1920), whose descendants can now be found in Russia, Ukraine, Germany, Brazil, Canada, and beyond. The family's historical material is collected here, but the active conversations among relatives around the world is happening on the family Facebook group.

About the photo

There has been a lot of discussion regarding the identities of some of the people on this picture. According to oral tradition given to us by Elvira Hubert, the photo includes the following:

Seated from left to right: Franz Franz Hübert (1875–1964), who later moved to Canada, and his first wife, Helena Wiebe (1877–1903); Lena Esau Hübert, 5th wife of Franz Jakob and Great Grandpa Franz Jakob Hübert (1850–1920). On his lap is Franz Franz Hübert’s daughter Helen (1896–1924), who later became Heinrich Giesbrecht’s first wife.

Standing left to right: Dietrich and Jakob Esau, sons of Lena Esau Hübert, from her earlier marriage. In between the Esau brothers is David Hübert, Franz Jakob’s son. The next two are sons Jakob Franz (who later moved to Brazil) and Heinrich (who died young in Russia); then Anna Hübert, sister to Jakob, Heinrich and David; finally, half-sister Tina, the daughter of Franz Jakob and his second wife. Tina had an older brother Abram, who is not pictured. The mother of Jakob, Franz, Heinrich, Anna and David was Elizabeth Janzen (1852–1891), who had died by the time this photograph was taken.

If you have any additional information to verify the above or any comments this would be appreciated.
